NIST SlapSeg

Testing “Slap Fingerprint Segmentation Evaluation 2004” was held by the National Institute of Standards and Technologies. There were all world leaders among the participants – producers of police AFIS. Testing goal is to determine the accuracy level of the existing in the world algorithms of the separation of four fingers controlled slaps. There are some criteria of the algorithms estimation:
• an ability to separate correctly four-finger slaps into four separate fingerprints;
• an ability to determine the finger number correctly;
• an ability to determine in difficult cases and give a signal about any problems with the segmentation (impossibility to discover all four fingerprints and other such cases).
In 2005 the testing results were resumed. Sonda Algorithm has shown the best results on the bad quality fingerprints database. “SONDA Technologies” was in the top-three on the good and excellent quality fingerprints databases.
